School Meals
All pupils in reception, year 1 and 2 are eligible for free school meals.
To enable us to make sure we have sufficient stock for the increased uptake and to limit wastage
the three week menu is sent home via Parentmail, usually on the Wednesday before the start of the three week menu cycle, and parents need to complete and return their meal selection in advance.
The menu
Our menus are formulated by drawing on statutory guidance from the DFE and taking foods from the five food groups in the right amount as indicated by the age of the children and by pupil uptake.
The majority of our meals are prepared from scratch, using fresh ingredients sourced locally.
We do not have fryers on site and we do not shallow fry.
Pasta and base sauces include seasonal vegetables and our fruit based desserts contain 50% fruit to the dry ingredients.
Fruit and yoghurt are always available as a dessert choice and on two occasions each week are the only dessert option.
The daily vegetarian option will be the same as the main meal but adapted accordingly.
Themed lunches are held occasionally and are very popular with the children. Past themes include World Book Day, Harvest, Sports Day and Christmas. You will be advised separately about these special days as and when they occur.
Nuts
We do not have nuts or products made from or containing nuts on the school premises.
However we cannot guarantee that all products brought into school have not been in contact with an area or another product that may have contained nuts.
Allergens
Please contact the school office for allergen information.
Packed Lunch
Should you wish your child to have a packed lunch, please ensure that all lunch boxes and drinks containers are named. It is advisable to include a small ice pack (or similar) to help keep packed lunches cool during hot weather.
Please may we request that all grapes and cherry tomatoes are cut in half, lengthways, to avoid choking and large pieces of fruit are cut up or peeled and segmented.
We have a healthy packed lunch code which we ask everyone to follow and ask that packed lunches contain a high percentage of healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables, carbohydrates, protein, oily fish and dairy products and a very small percentage of cake and biscuits.
The following foods are not allowed in packed lunches as they attract ants, melt, make a sticky mess and do not follow our healthy packed lunch code:
Fizzy drinks
Chocolate
Sweets
Chocolate covered / filled biscuits and cakes
We have a number of students and staff that have allergies to nuts. We do not have nuts or products made from or containing nuts on the school premises.
Please help us to keep everyone safe and DO NOT put nuts or any product containing nuts in lunch boxes.
